Proofreading

proofreading: reading and marking up the proofs of a text to fix any problems in layout and design; errors introduced during typesetting; or mistakes missed during copyediting. It is the final stage before the text is released for publication, so the proofreader should not be looking to improve the writing style, layout or any other aspect of the text, and needs to take into account the effects of any changes they mark and how they will fit into the existing page layout.

CIEP glossary of editorial and publishing terms

Proofreading is the last stage of the process of printing a book or other physical document, so is not necessary in a website check.

However if you are writing an e-book, this may be relevant.

Your investment here includes proofreading of the final text AFTER all other editing has been done - it is a last check before a book goes to print.

If you have had other editing done by us, we can complete this stage as well, or it can be done as a separate job.

It will NOT include line or structural edits, although we might suggest that you upgrade to this if the text appears to need more input.

This starts at £11 per hour.
